Supporting individuals serving Imprisonment for Public Protection sentences

Our IPP support work is dedicated to assisting individuals serving Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentences as they navigate the complex journey towards release and successful resettlement. We provide practical, emotional, and advocacy-based support both in custody and in the community, helping people overcome the unique barriers created by an IPP sentence. This includes preparation for parole, building life skills and confidence, and ensuring individuals have the tools, opportunities, and support networks needed to rebuild their lives safely and sustainably. Our approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, and rooted in the belief that everyone deserves hope, dignity, and a genuine chance to move forward.

Our initial projects were launched at HMP Hindley and HMP Buckley Hall, where we began delivering targeted support to men serving IPP sentences. Working closely with prison staff , we provide structured interventions focused on progression, sentence planning, and preparation for parole, alongside wellbeing and confidence-building support. These pilot projects enable us to develop effective, evidence-based approaches that respond to the specific challenges faced by IPP prisoners, while creating a model that can be expanded to other establishments in the future.
